What are Needles, Cannulas and Threads?

Cannulas: Cannulas are blunt-tipped metal cylinders with a side port that can be used in lieu of needles. The length and flexibility of these aesthetic cannulas allow cosmetic practitioners to cover a larger surface area with a single entry point.

Needles: A hollow, slender, sharply pointed instrument used for injection. Aesthetic needles are specially designed for dermal filler and toxin injection.

Threads:
A thread lift is a type of procedure wherein temporary sutures are used to produce a subtle but visible “lift” in the skin. Instead of removing the patient’s loose facial skin surgically, the cosmetic surgeon simply suspends it by stitching up portions of it.

What to know about cannulas and needles;

  • Both cannulas and needles deliver similar aesthetic outcomes.
  • Microcannulas can treat a large area from a single insertion point.
  • There are 3 things to consider in terms of cannula safety: size, shape, and direction.
  • There is less patient discomfort with microcannula.
  • Optimal results are best achieved with a combination of needle and cannula.
